Broad-band mHz QPOs and spectral study of LMC X-4 with <i>AstroSat</i>

چکیده

We report the results of broadband timing and spectral analysis data from an AstroSat observation High Mass X-ray binary LMC X$-$4. The Large Area Proportional Counter (LAXPC) Soft Telescope (SXT) instruments on-board observed source in August 2016. A complete eclipse was detected with LAXPC. 3$-$40 keV power density spectrum showed presence coherent pulsations along a $\sim 26$ mHz quasi-periodic oscillation feature. properties X$-$4 were derived joint SXT LAXPC data. 0.5$-$25 persistent comprised absorbed high energy cutoff law photon index $\Gamma \sim$ 0.8 at $\sim$16 keV, soft thermal component kT$_{BB} 0.14 Gaussian components corresponding to Fe K$_\alpha$, Ne \textsc{ix} \textsc{x} emission lines. Assuming distance 50 kpc, we determined 0.5--25 luminosity be 2 \times 10^{38}$ erg s$^{-1}$.

The Broad Band Spectral Properties of Binary X–ray Pulsars

The X–ray telescopes on board BeppoSAX are an optimal set of instruments to observe bright galactic binary pulsars. These sources emit very hard and quite complex X–ray spectra that can be accurately measured with BeppoSAX between 0.1 and 200 keV. A prototype of this complexity, the source Her X–1, shows at least seven different components in its spectrum. A broad band measure is therefore of p...

Broad band Spectral Properties of Accreting X–ray Binary Pulsars

Broad-band spectra of accreting X–ray binary pulsars can be fit by a phenomenological model composed by a power law with a high energy rollover above 10 keV, plus a blackbody component with a temperature of few hundred eV. While, at least qualitatively, the hard tail can be explained in terms of (inverse) Compton scattering, the origin of the soft component cannot find a unique explanation. Rec...

X – ray broad - band study of the symbiotic X – ray binary 4 U 1954 + 31

We present results of several pointed X–ray broad band observations of the 'symbiotic X–ray binary' 4U 1954+31 performed with the satellites BeppoSAX, EXOSAT, ROSAT, RXTE and Swift between October 1983 and April 2006. We also studied the RXTE ASM data over a period of more than 10 years, from January 1996 to October 2006. Light curves of all pointed observations show an erratic behaviour with s...

Black Hole X-ray Binary LMC X–1 and LMC X–3: Observations Confront Spectral Models

We present a comprehensive spectral analysis of black hole X-ray binaries, LMC X–1 and LMC X–3, based on BeppoSAX observations. We test both the multi-color disk plus power law (MCD+PL) model and a newly-developed Monte-Carlo simulationbased model for a Comptonized MCD (CMCD) with either a spherical or a slab-like corona, by comparing the inferred parameters with independent direct measurements...

Broad Band X-ray Spectral Properties of Gamma-Ray Bursts with BeppoSAX

In about one year, five gamma–ray bursts were simultaneously observed with the Wide Field Cameras and Gamma Ray Burst Monitor aboard the BeppoSAX satellite. From some of them X–ray afterglow emission has been clearly detected with the same satellite. In order to understand how GRB emission is related to the X–ray afterglow, we are performing a systematic study of the spectral properties of thes...
